Hood Sweeney appoints new Managing Director and independent Chair
We are proud to announce the appointment of Marisa Riccio, a long-serving Director from the Accounting and Business Advisory arm, as our new Managing Director.
The firm also appointed Peter Siebels, a 30-year veteran of KPMG, as independent chair of the board.
The appointment of Ms Riccio, one of the firm’s longest-serving professionals, to MD “reflect her skills and clear passion for the business,” said Mr Siebels, currently a Principal at 4D Advisory Pty Ltd, which specialises in providing advice to Australian private companies and family businesses.
“She has the respect of all key stakeholders, and operates every day with great integrity and respect for her team. Coupled with her core desire to provide outstanding service to her clients, she is positioned to be an outstanding Managing Director,” he said.
Ms Riccio joined Hood Sweeney in 1999 as an undergraduate while studying at the University of South Australia, and has worked her way through the ranks to become a Partner.
She replaces Chris Stewart who did not seek re-appointment as Managing Director after three years in the position.
Ms Riccio, 39, is the first female to take the reins at Hood Sweeney and one of the few women at the top of the male-dominated professional services industry. While she does not dwell on the gender issue, she said she is proud of the achievement.
“I think it is actually quite an inspirational story for our future leaders – and women in leadership here at Hood Sweeney. It shows them that in a male-dominated industry, provided you have the passion, the skills and the motivation, you can achieve anything.
We do focus on developing women in leadership at Hood Sweeney. We take gender diversity quite seriously and believe everyone deserves the opportunity regardless of whether they are male or female.”
Established in 1976, Hood Sweeney has offices in Adelaide, Whyalla and Kadina. The firm provides accounting, financial planning, finance, technology, consulting and performance coaching services.
Having served business clients across a range of industries, Ms Riccio has deep knowledge and expertise in business practices and works directly with business owners, advising them on how to meet their goals and objectives.
“We are absolutely focussed on creating strong bonds with businesses and individuals we work with, and looking after their best interests,” said Ms Riccio, who has particular expertise in the business financial and management accounting, governance, taxation planning, cash flow forecasting and salary packaging.
In addition, she has worked with indigenous not-for-profit groups and related government agencies.
Looking ahead, Mr Siebels said Hood Sweeney is a business with “a clear vision, one that has from its very foundation client success at its core.
Through innovation and investment in key industry lines and staff development, the business will continue to grow and develop as one of South Australia’s most unique and successful professional service firms.”
Ms Riccio and Mr Siebels new roles are effective immediately.
