LSI-A Grand Opening Ushers in a New Era for South Australian Aerospace

South Australia’s reputation as a leader in advanced manufacturing and defence has reached new heights with the grand opening of Life Support International Australia (LSI-A) in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

This milestone marks LSI’s first facility outside Pennsylvania, USA, and establishes South Australia as the Asia-Pacific hub for aeronautical life support equipment maintenance.

The new Elizabeth South service centre will service critical equipment for the Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, including LSI’s flagship UNI-PAC III 20-person life raft - a vital survival system for aircrew operating over water. Previously, this equipment had to be shipped back to the US for servicing. Now, with LSI-A located just minutes from RAAF Edinburgh, turnaround times and local capability are set to improve dramatically, enhancing support for Australia’s defence personnel.

LSI-A’s arrival was supported by a $100,000 grant from the Malinauskas Government’s Investment Accelerator Program, alongside a joint $200 million Federal and State initiative to develop a Deep Maintenance and Modification Facility for Australian Defence Force aircraft. The company expects to grow its South Australian workforce to 17 employees by the end of the decade, creating highly skilled roles in aircraft maintenance, aerospace engineering, and supply chain logistics.

The success of LSI-A’s launch in South Australia is the result of a strategic collaboration between Life Support International and local defence specialist BiORG.

Veteran-owned BiORG led the initiative to bring LSI to Australia, providing Integrated Product Support, establishing the new facility, and now overseeing its day-to-day operations.

In under 10 months, the team delivered a comprehensive sustainment strategy, launched a new business, recruited and trained a South Australian workforce, and completed the first servicing of the UNI-PAC III life raft ahead of schedule.
