Hood Sweeney’s history is like a number of other successful South Australian entrepreneurial businesses.
We started out in 1976 as PJ Hood & Co, an accounting firm, with just one client.
Over the next decade, we would add a new partner – Graham Sweeney – who brought a change of name and a number of clients.
From that time, Hood Sweeney continuously evolved with the appointment of new partners and the growth of new services such as financial planning (2001), technology (2004) and finance (2005).
In 2012, we attracted CountPlus to acquire a 25% shareholding in our firm, providing the perfect platform for future growth.
Countplus (CUP) is an ASX-listed company with a aggregated national network of 20 professional service practices, primarily providing accounting and wealth advice through 35 offices in 18 towns and cities across Australia with over 600 employees.
The beauty of this relationship is that offers support without curtailing our independence.
Hood Sweeney continues to operate independently under its own Australia Financial Services Licence and Australian Credit Licence.
In 2013, Hood Sweeney merged with accounting firm, Shearer + Elliss, which shared a similar culture and ‘client-first’ mentality to our own.
Today, Hood Sweeney is 120-people strong, with a board of five, an independent chairman and offices in South Terrace, Adelaide (head office), Whyalla and Kadina (satellite).
