Benson Radiology opens a new chapter

For more than 50 years Benson Radiology has provided outstanding services to patients and referring doctors, establishing itself as one of the country’s leading diagnostic imaging practices. Committed to patient care and innovation, Benson Radiology prides itself on its experience, stability and history.

From its humble beginnings as a single radiology department in 1958, Benson Radiology has grown into a local South Australian success story and one of the nation’s largest private diagnostic imaging practices. It now operates a network of 22 clinics across South Australia with 29 radiologists and employs more than 400 staff. The practice is privately owned by its19 radiologist equity partners and offers a wide range of radiology services, including CT scans, x-rays, MRI, nuclear medicine as well as ultrasound and mammography to name just a few. The practice’s highly skilled radiologists are experts in their field and maintain strong relationships with referring doctors and specialists to make sure patients receive the best treatment at all times.

With the vision of its partners and under the direction of CEO Graham McGeagh, a well-respected corporate strategist, Benson Radiology has embarked on an exciting growth phase, starting with a multi million dollar refurbishment and technology upgrade at its Salisbury branch to meet demand in the city’s north.

The refurbishment includes the installation of a state-of-the-art wide bore magnetic resonance imaging machine, along with a low dose CT scanner, digital mammography unit, three new ultrasound machines, digital x-ray and a nuclear medicine scanner.

Mr McGeagh said the business had effectively doubled its footprint at Salisbury as it continued to expand under a five-year strategic plan. "Part of the five-year strategic plan is to consolidate recent growth and support branches that require input, but when we are considering  where we want to grow the practice, we want to make sure any new sites are fit within the agreed plan," Mr McGeagh said.

"There is clear population growth in the northern suburbs," Mr McGeagh said. "A review of the State Government's 30-year Plan shows there is a significant focus on population growth through the northern corridor."

Benson Radiology will continue to invest in state-of-the-art equipment and ongoing staff training and professional development to ensure the best patient care is given and referring doctors receive high-quality service. Mr McGeagh will work with the radiology partnership to build the practice’s competitive edge and further expansion.

"Part of our strategy relates to acquisitions outside of SA ... we have had a look at some opportunities but nothing has appealed to us," Mr McGeagh said.

Benson Radiology is one of South Australia’s outstanding success stories, committed to its patients, staff and suppliers.
